this story is in no way simple, a very elaborate and complex story involving mythos type creatures, spirituality, magic/magik, psychics, natural disasters are cropping up everywhere, and wars are breaking out left and right.
in this story, we will be creating more special characters with hughe influences in the storyline, some subtle, others very direct.
Humans, Orcs, Trolls, Elves, you name it, you can eventually find them hiding somewhere on or in the world. at first their world will be separate from ours, but they can be mentioned, as part of the build up.
the general story outline:
the end of the world is upon us, the veil between worlds has lifted, and the spiritual realm has been flooding into the world, weakening the Earth's defenses against the evil entities that seek to corrupt and enslave the planet and her offspring.
the planet is weakened, causing many natural disasters in effort to reserve and strengthen it's protective energies.
there are 7 physical gates on the planet, sealing the more powerful demonspawn in an astral prison ofsorts. the spiritual barriers have been breached, but their physical prison still prevents them from completely breaking through.
at present, one physical gate has been almost destroyed, enough so, that very small fragments of it's respective demonic entities can escape, slowly but surely.
a civil war is brewing in the north american contenent for sure, and the rest of the world's affairs are in turmoil as well, while tsunamis, earthquakes, volcanoes, hurricanes, and tornados tear apart the surface of the world.
Deep in the earth, closer to the core than the surface, lies the subteranium society, a peaceful civilization at the pique of consciousness, consisting of every creature ever to walk the earth, from dragons to human beings, even the few peaceful stickwalkers ever to live. they are not unaware of the dealings on the surface, and have been locking themselves away in fear of corruption by the demons ever since the end of the ancient/prehistoric mythological golden age.

some generalities regarding a few of the races, not that these are only generalities, and your characters will probably be somewhat exempt from circumstance, such as an oger being raised by humans, not as dumb as other ogres, or a half breed of two races.
another note is the vampires and lycanthropes. natural lycanthropes can be anything from a wereant to werehuman to a werefox or werewolf. they are the blood enemy of vampires due to the condition of their being, they both can create others of their kind from a bite, however vampires must feed their victim their own blood*, while a lycan's saliva is usually enough to change the blood of their victim, but not always completely.
there are few to no vampiric Lycans, the cross breeding is 85-100% impossible, as the genetics of Lycanthropes are incompatible with the blood of a vampire, usually resulting in death to the lycan, sometimes even the vampire at bite.
natural lycans are not human, only humanoid. most** people cursed with the bite of a lycan can shape shift to the animaloid of the lycan that bit them, they are not only werewolves, but werebats and weremink as well, use your immagination.
*not all vampires can create other vampires, nor do all vampires require blood, but can also feed on the life force of others even from a distance. the thinner the bloodline of the vampire, the less powerful their blood, the less chance they have to ressurect their victims.
**if a lycan has let enough saliva enter the bloodstream of it's victom, they may change completely, but the chance is slim that they will not struggle. strugglers tend to lose too much blood, break free, or become a meal.

Human: your basic person, mostly ignorant of the changes in the world, kept under the veil of lies and deciet by the government, corporations, and media. there are still many who are aware of the strange creatures appearing in the world, but most of them are either hateful of them, or completely unaware.
Werehumans: lycan humans are rare, but not uncommon, they are generally superior to humans in every way from wit and wisdom, to strength and speed. they are generally more prone to psychic influences as well.
lycan humanoids such as wereorcs and weretrolls are later to be revealed when the 5'th and 6'th gates are down.

Elves: taller than most creatures, long and pointed ears, and a higher intellectual capacity. they have been around forever, but in secrecy for the most part. some elf cultures even have confroming rituals to fit in with the humans, such as carving their ears.
Were'elves: Elves have a naturally long lifespan, however Were'elves live forever unless killed. other than their lifespan, there is no way to distinguish them from other elves.

Ogres otherwise wont mate. there are no interbreeds. often ogres will die without any sexual sensations at all, even so little as masturbation.
Wereogres: superior in strength and size to Ogres, even more frequently fat, and rather than more intellectually drive, these creatures are even more sexually driven to find one another and mate. unlike ogres, Wereogres can sense one another, and seek to find each other, with senses of unknown purpose.

Harpies: Harpies are a humanoid with wings on their arms, and beaks on their faces. their voices are shrill and grainy. only beautiful to their own kind. their bodies tend to be dull colors, and feathers tend to be as dull as their skin, but some are lucky enough to have vibrant yellows and oranges.
Wereharpies: unlike harpies, the voice of the wereharpy is hypnotic and lulling. most creatures cannot remain awake in the prescience of their voices. as well, their wings are on their backs, like those of an angel.

Skinwalkers: evil, vile, chaotic creatures whose sole purpose is to wreak havoc upon the so called lesser creatures. their bodies are long and like sticks, with no discernible muscles or organs, however they are capable of shape shifting. though they can only take form of organic and muscular bodies, such as fish, cats, elves, orcs, and humans, they have no limit to living creature save that of plants.

Centaurs: Centaurs have the upper torso of a human, and the body of a horse. they are mostly mysterious, and all but very few live deep, deep under the earth with the subteraniums, a large society of life, from insects to orcs.
Werecentaurs are <i>almost</i> as rare as Wereskinwalkers, but naturally, superior to Centaurs.
Demons: demons are almost purely spiritual, and have been in the world since the begining, invading as tiny microscopic organisms too small to be of any more threat than a plague or virus.
since the fall of the earth's spiritual shielding, they have been able to amass into larger creatures of evil, and have since weakened gates that have trapped and imprisoned the stronger demon hordes, allowing them too, to invade and amass into even more terrifying demons.
there are no weredemons.
